News & Notices – Vashon Health Care District

4/13/2020: Vision of Care Press Release

The Vashon Health Care District is accepting public comment on a draft “Vision of Care” statement that will guide its selection of one or more provider partners to serve the island’s health care needs.

The draft statement outlines values that are priorities for the district, as well as health-care services the district would like potential providers to offer in return for financial support from taxpayers. Those services include primary care, unscheduled/walk-in care and extended clinic hours.

When finalized, the Vision of Care will be a key part of a “Request for Proposal” (RFP) the district plans to circulate to regional health-care provider systems in early May. Among other things, the RFP will ask interested provider systems how they would provide the services listed in the Vision of Care, and what level of financial support from the district they might seek.

The draft Vision of Care statement was prepared by the district’s Provider Selection Committee, which consists of two commissioners and five community members.

The draft Vision of Care statement is on the district’s website, www.vashonhealthcare.org. Comments may be emailed to the district through its website (click “Contact Us”) or submitted in writing to Vashon Health Care District, 19001 Vashon Highway SW, Suite 204, Vashon, WA 98070.

Comments must be submitted by April 26, 2020. The Provider Selection Committee will consider all comments before adopting a final statement to include in the RFP.

The Vashon Health Care District was established by vote of Vashon residents in November 2019 to provide financial support for vital health-care services, including services the island might otherwise lose.

The mission of the Vashon Health Care District is to promote and maintain the health of the residents of Vashon and Maury islanders by supporting accessible, quality primary health care through community partnerships, shared decision-making, transparency and responsible stewardship of resources

Tim Johnson

I have been a resident of  Vashon island since 2009.  My previous background was in frozen foods operations and brand management, but on Vashon I found a new calling in the nonprofit and public service sector.

I have chaired the Vashon Maury Island Community Council, served on the board of Vashon Be Prepared, been a member of the Vashon Maury Health Collaborative, and served on the executive committee for the campaign to create this very Health District.

Professionally, I have had the immense honor and pleasure of being the business manager for Granny’s Attic for the past eleven years.

I’m a people person, and if we haven’t met, we should fix that immediately!
